Should i seek a commission?

Im 16 now and have been thinking about the marines for a while. Originally i wanted to just go in right after high school. My dad was all for it but was convinced that with my intellect i would be better suited getting a commission and leading marines as a lieutenant. Im in a pretty prestigious high school, play a lot of sports, in great shape, and with my grades i can get into a good college. The money would be an issue, and i guess thats where NROTC would help. Im sure i would do great leading others, i just dont know how i would do if i ever lost somebody. So, does anyone here have any experience or knowledge about the benefits of a commission or what it takes to be an officer? much appreciated
